Sometimes I Wonder...

what I'm-a gon-na do... 'cause there ain't no cure for the summertime blues! Belting out a semi-random lyric just doesn't work as well in type, does it? LOL I've gotten to that point in my life where I realize there were a lot of advantages to becoming a teacher. When I left for college I had spent too many years watching the majority of kids in Dad's classes get brattier and brattier each year. I figured I really didn't want to be handling that every day. But, now that Micaila's finished her first year of school and Brenden's getting ready to start his first I find myself wishing more and more that my time off coincided more with theirs... At work our busiest season is from June to October. Just when they have time to spend with me I have no energy to do anything with the small amount of time I have after work and before bed...

So, I've managed to skip a chunk of time again... which of course means I have a catch-up to do with LOs.

------------------------------

Well, I don't know about where you live, but around here the weather has been completely screwy. Last weekend we had 6 different towns doing fireworks over 4 different nights. Do you think we saw any of them?? NO! We had plans to see the ones in Watertown on Thursday night, but due to weather predictions they cancelled/rescheduled them for Monday night before noon on Thursday. Since we'd all ready made plans for dinner out, and Dad had dropped me off at work and kept the kids busy all day we decided to do that anyway before deciding what to do for the evening. We ended up going to the drive in to watch Ice Age 3 & Night at the Museum 2. The kids had a blast, and we even won the free pizza they give away at intermission! It did start drizzeling again, but not 'til after 11:30pm.

Friday - it poured on and off all day... I can't even remember what we did to be honest.

Saturday - showers on and off, and we did the grocery shopping. The sun came out JUST before sunset so I debated going, but the fireworks that night were in a town I've never been to so I wasn't sure about where to park or anything... Decided to wait.

Sunday - gorgeous day. We ended up going strawberry picking - a first for the kids, and I used some freezer jam pectin I had from last fall to make almost 3 quarts of homemade strawberry jam. Then Micaila helped me create a flower bed next to the shed. The fireworks that night were in a town that we normally go to, but traffic tends to bottleneck BADLY, and I had work in the morning so we procrastinated until it was too late to go with the understanding that we were going to try to use Thursday's plan on Monday, and go to Watertown for the fireworks...

Monday - wake up to torrential downpour and thunder/lightening storm at 5:30am. Hmmm... wonder if they'll cancel? By 8am the sun's shining and it's gorgeous again, but there's no update online anymore as to whether the fireworks are still on or not. Called the tv station and they have no idea... Mike decides to stay home with the kids instead of going to town, and hence - we missed those as well.

Also keep in mind that I almost NEVER get a 3-day weekend, and did. So, of course, the kids who were perfect angels for Grampy all day Thursday spent the ENTIRE next three days either bickering with each other or fighting with us. It's enough to make steam come out of my ears I tell ya'!

Today is my nephew, Mark Jr.'s 13th bday. Nora had a party at the park/zoo for him so guess what?! It rained! By the time I got done with work, and met up with everyone they were soaked to the bone. He seemed happy so I guess that's all that matters. LOL

Tomorrow is our annual family reunion in Syracuse so no break this weekend. I'm hoping to get a bunch of my printed LOs trimmed down to 8x8 and into albums while I'm there tomorrow. For the last 3 years it's been held at the home of one of Dad's cousins. They have a fairly large yard with apple orchards attached, and a home big enough to accomodate everyone if the weather turns bad. Nora's family is going this year as well so the kids will have each other to play with - if no other younger kids show up.

It's late. I was up early as usual, and am zonked. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day/night!

:)
